The Changing Face of "Family"

Fifty years ago family was defined as Mom, Dad, Children, and the occasional pet. Times change and I now find myself lucky to be part of the new extended families that develop through high quality child-care establishments. I consider myself and my children part of the large and growing "Little Dolphin Family". We were one of the "originals", enrolling in the school before the doors opened, and entering the classrooms when there were more teachers than kids. I am happy to say that I liked the feeling this school gave me then and this feeling has not changed. Some of the teachers who have guided my children through crawling, walking, and potty training have gone on to other challenges in their lives, but their memories remain and will always be cherished. Not to be forgotten of course, are the teachers who have joined our family and chosen to stay. The value of walking through the school and seeming many familiar faces with whom to leave a reluctant 2 year old cannot be underestimated. When I leave for work every morning I do not consider that I am leaving my children with strangers, but rather that they are enjoying time with the rest of their family. I hope that long after my kids have progressed to grade school and beyond that the Little Dolphin Family continues. We will always remain proud "alumni".

Thanks to Steve, Kim, Shelia, Leslea, Shannon, Heidi, and all of the teachers who continue to make this school the great place that it is.
